Southwestern Medical Foundation is grateful for its longtime partnership with generous philanthropists Carolyn and Roger Horchow and their daughters, Lizzie Horchow Routman, Regen Horchow, and Sally Horchow. The family’s imprint is forever embedded on the UT Southwestern Medical Center campus and in the hearts of the Dallas community.

Shad and Michele Rowe made a generous gift to Southwestern Medical Foundation that will help scientists decipher the workings of the human brain at the Peter O’Donnell Jr. Brain Institute (OBI). The Rowes are hopeful that new discoveries will someday end the devastating toll of neurodegenerative diseases like Parkinson’s (PD) and other movement disorders.

There are other ways — easy ways — to support health care foundations and charities that go beyond making a donation.

The Institute supports the recruitment of world leaders in science and medicine.

We mourn the loss and celebrate the life of Margaret Jonsson Rogers, who passed away on January 25, 2021. Her many contributions of gifts and service benefited many organizations, creating progress in our city.

Twenty years ago, Dave Folz joined the Estate Planning Council to help inspire and advance progress in medicine. After attending Council meetings and presentations where he learned about UT Southwestern’s exceptional care and world-class research, Dave and Lori became inspired to do more.

Sam L. Susser and his family recently relocated to Dallas, where he joined Southwestern Medical Foundation’s Board of Trustees.

Kenneth D. Altshuler, M.D., passed away on January 6, 2021. He played a vital role in leadership at UT Southwestern, serving for decades and creating a legacy of tremendous contribution and progress.

This year, our families, businesses, and communities have experienced tremendous challenges. But, together, we have led tremendous progress. As we take time to look back on a year of milestones, we give our deepest thanks to the donors, advocates, friends, and supporters who have demonstrated an unwavering commitment to our mission.

Evelyn Whitman-Dunn, a former leader, Trustee, and steadfast supporter of Southwestern Medical Foundation and UT Southwestern Medical Center, passed away on January 2, 2021.
