Visionary founders, Dr. Edward H. Cary, Karl Hoblitzelle, Hall Shannon, and E.R. Brown charter Southwestern Medical Foundation to build a medical center in the Southwestern U.S.

Southwestern Medical College of Southwestern Medical Foundation is created.

Dr. Cary deeds ownership of land, buildings, equipment, and library of Southwestern Medical College to The University of Texas System.

Nearly 1 million is raised to expand the school into a “Life Sciences Center,” doubling the size of the existing campus. Dr. Charles Cameron Sprague, then Dean of the Medical School, developed the proposal for the expansion.

The endowment of 27 new Distinguished Chairs is created by a successful $21 million fundraising campaign, chaired by Robert Decherd, Chairman and CEO of A.H. Belo Corporation.

The first edition of Perspectives newsletter is mailed to thousands of readers. The first issue celebrates 60 years of success  in connecting North Texas’ business community to progress in medicine.

The Foundation returns to its original home, on the same grounds where Southwestern Medical College began by the original Parkland Hospital on what is now called the Old Parkland Campus.

The Foundation’s “Leading the Conversation on Health” was created to bring together a diverse community of thought leaders focused on the future of health and provide a means to better understand the extraordinary strides being made in academic medicine, especially at UT Southwestern.

With support from Former Governor Clements and many generous donors, Clements University Hospital opens. U.S. World News and Report names this leader in innovation as Best Hospital in Dallas-Fort Worth every year since 2017.

With tremendous generosity of Peter O’ Donnell, the Peter O’Donnell Jr. Brain Institute is established to better understand the basic molecular workings of the brain and apply those discoveries to prevention and treatment of brain, spine, nerve and muscle disorders.

Southwestern Medical Foundation’s significant financial strength and dedication to transparency earns a Candid (formerly GuideStar) Platinum Seal and Charity Navigator 100/100 Encompass Rating. Today, the Foundation continues to maintain its Platinum Seal status.
