Do or Dye with Dr. Chika Nwachukwu

Using different dyes, Dr. Chika Nwachukwu, a previous Cary Council Early Research Grant recipient, or “DocStar,” will walk you through color-changing experiments that mimic the way HPV is detected in patient samples.

This video is part of The Cary Council’s 2021 fundraising event: An Evening with DocStars at Home.

An Evening with DocStars at Home was hosted by The Cary Council on May 1 as a safe, yet interactive, drive-thru pick-up party on the UT Southwestern campus. The pick-up party included different stations to collect fun swag, at-home experiment kits from DocStar grant recipients, gourmet treats and a photo opportunity.

Thanks to sponsors and attendees of this special drive-through celebration, The Cary Council was able to provide significant grants to three early-career researchers at UT Southwestern this year.

The Cary Council is dedicated to advancing early-stage research at UT Southwestern, in partnership with Southwestern Medical Foundation. Through engaging programming, they are catalyzing a new generation of community leaders and working to raise awareness of the important cause of academic medicine, research, and medical education in our community. The signature fundraising event, An Evening with DocStars, is a unique opportunity to help support early-stage biomedical research at UT Southwestern with the Cary Council.

In the past five years since The Cary Council’s founding, our generous community has made it possible to award 12 substantial grants to early-stage research investigators at UT Southwestern. The Cary Council’s former grant recipients have secured nearly $7 million in additional funding, allowing them to translate their research into life-changing advances in medicine.
