Southwestern Medical Foundation’s 2020 Trustees were elected by the Foundation’s Board at their Annual Meeting. Each of the new Trustees have contributed significantly to the community, with talents and passions closely aligned with the Foundation’s mission. As a public charitable corporation advancing and inspiring progress in medicine, Southwestern Medical Foundation connects donors with innovative programs and serves as a sustainable funding source for leading-edge research, medical education, and patient care. Foundation fundraising initiatives have led to tremendous innovation and growth in the scientific and medical communities of Dallas.
Foundation Trustees are well respected for their community involvement and well-known through volunteerism, civic engagement, and corporate leadership. Confirmed by the Southwestern Medical Foundation Board at the most recent annual meeting, they are: Kelvin A. Baggett, M.D., Executive Vice President & Chief Impact Officer for McKesson and formerly the City of Dallas’ COVID-19 Health and Health Care Access Czar; Rod Jones, Chairman of the Board for Cyber Defense Labs; Bob Jordan, Executive Vice President of Corporate Services at Southwest Airlines; Jack Lowe, Jr., Retired CEO of TDIndustries; and Brian Schultz, Founder of Studio Movie Grill.

Kelvin A. Baggett, M.D.Dr. Baggett was named by Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson as the city’s COVID-19 Health and Healthcare Access Czar in May 2020. He assumed the role of assessing and leading efforts to promote equitable access to response, testing and treatment for COVID-19. In November 2020, Dr. Baggett joined McKesson Corporation in a newly created position as Executive Vice President & Chief Impact Officer. He has served as Managing Director of Posterity Capital Group; Senior Advisor to Pharos Capital Group; Chief Operating Officer for Health Care Navigator; SVP of Clinical Operations and Chief Clinical Officer for Tenet Healthcare Corporation, initially joining the company as Tenet’s Chief Medical Officer; and Chief Operating Officer Clinical Services Group and VP of Clinical Strategies at Hospital Corporation of America. He earned his bachelor’s degree from University of North Carolina, a medical degree from East Carolina University, a Master in Public Health from The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, and a Master of Business Administration from Duke University. |

Rod JonesMr. Jones is an investor in security and technology companies and currently serves as Chairman of the Board for Cyber Defense Labs. Most recently, he was Managing Director of BlackRock’s Global Client Group. Prior to joining BlackRock, he was Founder and Managing Partner of Cain Capital, a multi-family office with a focus on alternative and private equity investing. Other previous experience includes Esping Family Office Holdings, where he served as Partner; Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette; and First Chicago, where he began his investment banking career. For 10 years, he served as the Investment Committee Chair for the Board of Parkland Hospital Foundation. Mr. Jones graduated from Southern Methodist University with a Bachelor of Arts and earned a Master of Business Administration from The University of Texas at Austin. He and his wife Nancy Perot have six children. |

Bob JordanMr. Jordan is the Executive Vice President Corporate Services for Southwest Airlines. He has been with Southwest Airlines for more than 32 years, where he has led a variety of functions including Finance, Planning, Procurement, Technology, Corporate Strategy, and most recently, as Chief Commercial Officer. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for The Container Store, where he is Lead Director and chairs the Audit Committee. He also serves on the Board of The Texas A&M Association of Former Students. He formerly served on the Dean’s Advisory Board of the Mays Business School at Texas A&M University. Mr. Jordan earned an undergraduate degree in computer science and a Master of Business Administration, both from Texas A&M University. He and his wife, Kelly, are members of the Texas A&M University Legacy Society and are active in charitable organizations, including Cross Timbers Church, Compassion International, and the Metropolitan Opera. |

Jack Lowe, Jr.After serving two years in the U.S. Navy, Mr. Lowe joined TDIndustries in 1964, becoming CEO and Chair of the Board in 1980. He helped develop TDIndustries into one of America’s premier specialty contracting companies. He retired as CEO in 2004, and remained Board Chair until 2016. He regularly speaks for business groups and colleges, sharing his expertise on building organizational leadership, servant leadership, and quality. Mr. Lowe has been active in numerous civic and industry organizations, including as Trustee of the Dallas Independent School District, President of the Salesmanship Club of Dallas, and member of the Dallas Citizens Council. Mr. Lowe is a 1965 magna cum laude graduate of Rice University with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. He and his wife, Mary, have five grown children and nine grandchildren. |

Brian SchultzMr. Schultz is the Founder of Studio Movie Grill. Previously, Mr. Schultz worked as an aide to the late United States Senator from Pennsylvania, Arlen Specter. He is a founding member of the Young Entrepreneurs Organization. He was the recipient of the 2013 Regional Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year® and is currently a member of Young Presidents’ Organization and Conscious Capitalism. Mr. Schultz received a Bachelor of Science in Business Finance from California State University. He and his wife, Betty, have four children. Reflecting on 2020
In addition to welcoming Southwestern Medical Foundation’s 2020 Trustees, donor investments made it possible for the Foundation to continue broadening reach and impact in service to the community.
Through the Foundation’s COVID-19 Response Fund, North Texas Giving Tuesday Now, and North Texas Giving Day, donors invested nearly $1 million to support emerging needs of the community on the front lines of the COVID-19 battle. In an effort to connect the community with information during the pandemic, the Foundation launched a frequently updated COVID-19 resource page and continues to share important updates through social channels and e-newsletters.
Our community has generously committed to sustaining our mission by endowing essential research, scholarships, and faculty support. The Foundation has grown significantly in size and impact through our donors’ wish to see innovation in health care flourish.

The Foundation saw an increase in planned giving and welcomed 20 new members of The Heritage Society. The year also brought 11 new members to the Estate Planning Council.
