Charles Beggs Moncrief passed away on January 6, 2021. He was a builder who saw and responded to the need to fund progress in medicine. His is a tremendous legacy of leadership and purpose.
Nancy and Jeremy Halbreich appreciate life’s treasures – family, friends, good health, and the joy that comes from making the world better. Longtime friends of Southwestern Medical Foundation, the Halbreichs joined The Heritage Society in 2019 with a legacy gift to invest in further discovery and treatment of glioblastoma, an aggressive type of brain cancer.
Divya Bezwada was honored with the 2020 Ida M. Green Award for her leadership and research into metabolic changes that influence kidney cancer development.
Marsha and Michael Baylor are generous members of The Heritage Society. The Baylors, who are longtime residents of Arlington, Texas, are both deeply connected to UT Southwestern Medical Center. Each has battled cancer, Marsha twice with breast cancer and Michael with non-Hodgkins lymphoma.
Programs funded by CPRIT have led to several breakthroughs and improvements in cancer care across Texas.
In 1984, a generous bequest from Pinta Huff Harris dedicated half of her $1.5 million estate, including a significant tract of land in Pecos County, Texas, to Southwestern Medical Foundation.

Dr. Sambrook brought tremendous leadership during his time at UT Southwestern. He was admired and respected by all who knew him and will be remembered fondly.

Dr. Sambrook was world renowned for his studies of viruses and the molecular biology of normal and cancerous cells. His work effectively changed the ways in which scientists approach the cellular development of many forms of human cancer. He also co-authored Molecular Cloning: A Laboratory Manual, the definitive and best-selling manual on gene cloning. Sambrook was often described by his peers as brilliant, feisty, driven, and highly competitive. You can honor his legacy by supporting the Joseph F. Sambrook, Ph.D. Memorial Fund.
